Our local mission work began with nine youth and adults building a corral for the miniature horses at Hooves of Hope in Potomac, Illinois on July 10th and 11th. We bore 18 holes, plumbed 18 wooden posts, and attached 48 boards to those posts to construct the corral. Then in August, we continued our mission projects at Hooves of Hope (7757 US Route 136, Potomac, IL), by painting the fences.
The owners at Hooves of Hope (Stan, Mary and their son, Michael Remole) were so delighted with our hard-working youth and adults that they asked us to help them expand their larger corral. So, on September 9th and 11th we helped the Remole family bore about 60 holes, plumb 60 posts, and attach 3 boards to 40 of the posts. On September 23rd, Hooves of Hope gathered fifteen of their friends and members to finish putting boards on the back of the corral, and to paint the fence. The Remole family thanked our group profusely for helping them create these two corrals.
From time to time, youth return to feed the horses and play with the cats in the barn. Throughout the year, families partner with a Wrangler (young person) and participate in various equine activities that promote life skills while teaching basic Christian concepts, such as love, hope and peace.
