Learn Contemplative Prayer

Contemplative prayer has been associated with “meditation” and “Centering Prayer.” Generally, Rev. Tom Cici teaches the practice of Contemplative Prayer on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month beginning 12:30 p.m. in the church’s library.  These sessions last about 1-1/2 hours, and are open to adults and teens (ages 13 and older).

Although you do not have to attend multiple sessions to learn the practice of contemplative prayer, each session builds upon the other to increase spirituality.  Practitioners of contemplative prayer claim that it is a great stress and anxiety reducer.  Harmony in your life becomes more important than physical balance (as important as that is).  The prayer helps you feel good about yourself.  For these reasons, contemplative prayer shares some practice to meditation.

However, unlike meditation, contemplative prayer focuses on being in the Presence of God and listening to God.  Are you spiritually hungry?  Are you just not being fed spiritually?  Spirituality is our relationship with God, our need for spiritual conversation with the divine.  Contemplative prayer strives to glimpse the sacred in all things, in all people and in the self.  If you slow down enough and become aware of the divine Presence within, God will help you discern your purpose in life and God’s will for your life at this time.  Contemplative prayer helps you look at things differently and whatever God is calling to your attention.

These sessions on learning contemplative prayer are FREE to the public.  For those who feel lost or shackled by life experiences, this practice can provide freedom and give your life back.  Some practitioners have experienced healing powers through the use of completive prayers.  For more information, please contact Pastor Tom Cici at 765-541-0611 or call the First Christian Church (217) 283-6691.   Please leave your name and a brief message if there is no answer.  Thank you!
