Worship with us

Sunday Worship

Traditional Sunday Service
Worship leadership at First Christian Church is provided by clergy and lay people, young and old, male and female. . . . All Means All.   Communion is central to worship.  Everything we do – singing, praying, reading scripture and preaching – leads to communion.  It is the highlight and climax of each service.  In the spirit of our name, Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), the Lord’s Supper (Holy Communion; Eucharist) is open to all who believe and experience the one God as revealed in Christ Jesus, the Lord and Savior of the world.  One need not be a member of our church to partake of the Lord’s Table.

We invite you to join us for worship service on Sunday morning which begins at 10:00 a.m.  It is preceded by our Adult Sunday School.  This service is fairly traditional with hymns, piano music, a sermon, and Communion.  Our Bell Choir performs during solemnities.

Serving in Worship
Because the Disciples of Christ denomination recognizes the value of lay persons serving alongside clergy, there are many opportunities to serve in worship, especially at our 10:00 a.m. service on Sundays.  There is always a need for team members in the areas of audio and video support at this worship service, i.e. running the PowerPoint and operating the Clavinova.  Members are encouraged to explore the roles of deacon and elder to learn about the responsibilities and duties of serving in this manner.  Deacons and elders are nominated each year and serve 3 year terms.  See our list of Elders, Deacons, and other Church Leaders.  Our monthly Service Schedules show the many opportunities that pay persons can serve in worship.

If you have questions about getting involved, please email disciple@myfrontiermail.com.  Please let us know if you have a specific area of interest or talent, and we will connect you with the right people.   Thank you!

Saturday Worship

Attending church regularly helps improve the quality of life, but if you are having difficulty attending worship services on Sunday mornings, try attending our 5:30 p.m. Saturday evening worship services at First Christian Church in Hoopeston, IL.  This Saturday service lasts about thirty to thirty-five minutes – to accommodate busy Saturday schedules. Although these services will be short, they will allow the peace of Christ to rest upon your busy lives so that you may be quieted in prayer, allow scriptures to remind you of God’s love that sets your heart afire, and allow the grace of God to seek out your every need.  Christians, at these services, can witness and celebrate God by singing songs, praying, listening to a short sermon by Rev. Tom Cici, and participating in Holy Communion.  People usually do not come in their Sunday best, but come wearing whatever they have on – coming from work or play.

Please contact Rev. Tom Cici if you would like to participate in a Saturday evening music ministry.  If you know how to play the piano, a keyboard, the guitar or other musical instrument, please call/text Pastor Tom on cell phone 765-541-0611 or email marian64tom57@gmail.com.

Everyone is welcome to attend the 10:00 a.m. Sunday services and the 5:30 p.m. Saturday services.  Let’s follow the faith of Christ, which is, to trust God’s way of loving everyone and everything.
